scripture that encourages our spirit, especially during this time of year when 00:00:18.820 --> 00:00:25.450 we're getting out of the winter months, to focus on the Lord and what He wants to do and a 00:00:51.380 Because it's in the midst of the darkness the truth of God can shine more brightly through his people. 00:00:52.540 --> 00:00:59.760 And when I think about the Lord during these times, I realized scripture has all sorts of things to say about times of uncertainty, times of 00:00:59.760 --> 00:01:00.960 trouble. 00:01:00.980 --> 00:01:06.740 And one of the places in the Bible that I especially love that I want to share with us together comes from Psalm 62. 00:01:07.760 --> 00:01:14.980 We're using this series called Revive to go through passages of scripture in the Psalms to explain to us different scenarios that 00:01:14.980 --> 00:01:15.840 we face together. 00:01:15.960 --> 00:01:22.240 Because in life we can learn about the truth of who God is, but then we've got to answer how does that relate to where I live? 00:01:23.160 --> 00:01:29.720 How do we take the truth of God and the life that I live and see those things come together in a wonderful way of worship. 00:01:30.220 --> 00:01:37.420 And the book of Psalms is a beautiful place to find how to respond in faith to the circumstances around us, 00:01:37.440 --> 00:01:38.780 no matter what we go through as people. 00:01:39.680 --> 00:01:47.280 In fact, what makes the book of Psalm so unique is that while all the other books of the Bible will tell us about who God is, Psalms 00:01:47.440 --> 00:01:49.320 is man's response to the Lord. 00:01:50.660 --> 00:01:53.920 And we look at Psalm 62, this is David writing this psalm. 00:01:54.280 --> 00:02:00.460 And he's really answering for us the question, how think for us this morning, the answer is more than buy hand sanitizer and toilet paper, right? 00:02:13.500 --> 00:02:18.240 But what does David do in a moment for him when he's going through uncertain times? 00:02:18.420 --> 00:02:21.180 What does he do when he doesn't have complete control? 00:02:21.180 --> 00:02:28.040 Now certainly there is some control to the life that we lead and God wants us to respond and act based on our circumstances. 00:02:28.260 --> 00:02:30.310 But we can't control everything. 00:02:31.200 --> 00:02:37.720 And I think it's important for us to know that despite circumstances, it never changes who God calls you to be. 00:02:38.820 --> 00:02:42.600 The fruit of the spirit is as true in good times as it is in struggles. 00:02:44.080 --> 00:02:49.800 That God wants us to walk with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness. 00:02:51.320 --> 00:02:58.460 In Psalm 62, David shows to us in his own life through this worship expression that he writes 00:02:58.460 --> 00:03:04.640 here, how we respond in times where we don't have complete control and in times of uncertainty. 00:03:05.020 --> 00:03:10.560 In verse three and four is where he starts by recognizing for us the struggle that he's going through. 00:03:10.920 --> 00:03:17.020 His struggles a little bit different from us, but it's still similar in the sense that he doesn't have what can happen to your economy and what could happen even to the 00:04:18.560 --> 00:04:19.620 health of people. 00:04:21.339 --> 00:04:22.740 What do you do when you're on shaky ground? 00:04:24.240 --> 00:04:31.300 David acknowledges here as a man of faith, representing the image of God in him that God calls him to live by faith and 00:04:31.300 --> 00:04:32.240 not by fear. 00:04:32.240 --> 00:04:37.220 And he begins this Psalm by recognizing that life is fragile, but God is not. 00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:45.000 Adversity doesn't change the fact that you're in Christ and you're in his hands in hard times if you belong to the Lord. 00:04:46.520 --> 00:04:53.580 And while we don't want to go looking for difficult times, God can certainly redeem the trouble times. 00:04:53.620 --> but God is not. 00:06:27.140 --> 00:06:34.420 And you think about the stories in scripture that we find so inspiring that in every one of those instances, God could have taken the people or the in Egypt and just simply removed them and put them in the promised land. 00:06:43.880 --> 00:06:49.300 But rather than do that, rather than take them out of the circumstance, God chose to walk with them through it. 00:06:50.460 --> 00:06:57.760 I think when we consider the Lord in those moments, I like to think that God is not so much interested 00:06:57.760 --> 00:07:02.380 in the storm, but the heart of the individual that goes to the storm. 00:07:04.160 --> 00:07:08.200 How do we worship and respond in uncertain times and times we can't control? 00:07:08.200 --> 00:07:15.380 By one, recognizing, open our eyes to the idea that life is fragile, but God is 00:07:15.380 --> 00:07:15.480 not. 00:07:17.680 --> 00:07:24.920 The second way you see with David in Psalm 62:1-2, this is the way he opens the Psalm.` He tells us to 00:07:24.920 --> 00:07:26.400 wait on God's salvation. 00:07:26.440 --> 00:07:30.680 He says, for God alone, my soul waits in silence. 00:07:31.680 --> 00:07:33.540 From Him comes my salvation. 00:07:33.600 --> 00:07:36.860 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress. 00:07:37.140 --> 00:07:39.000 I shall not be greatly shaken. 00:07:40.400 --> 00:07:47.360 When you look at these expressions of David, the posture that he carries in the turmoil around him, verse three and four describes the turmoil. 00:07:47.620 --> 00:07:48.980 Shows life as fragile. 00:07:49.060 --> 00:07:52.880 But verse one and two what he reflects on is to wait on God's salvation. 00:07:53.360 --> 00:07:59.460 This word waiting is used in verse one it's used in verse give you rest. 00:08:49.460 --> 00:08:56.600 See a mark of God's people, is seen in how well their faith brings them to place of rest in the midst 00:08:56.600 --> 00:08:57.260 of turmoil. that you feel this rest and you feel this ability to 00:10:03.220 --> 00:10:03.640 wait. 00:10:03.960 --> 00:10:06.520 That you're behind a fortress made of rock. 00:10:08.640 --> 00:10:14.420 And David is saying to us in verse two we would be foolish to assume that David finds his security in a building. 00:10:16.440 --> 00:10:25.120 That yes, he may be behind a castle wall, or behind a fortress of the city, but 00:10:25.180 --> 00:10:26.840 that's not where his true hope is. 00:10:28.580 --> 00:10:31.750 That God alone is his rock and fortress. 00:10:34.220 --> 00:10:42.240 David is he's experiencing. 00:12:14.880 --> 00:12:21.480 You know, when you read the book of Revelation 2 and 3, the book of Revelation opens up by telling us it's written to the seven churches. 00:12:21.760 --> 00:12:25.220 And it clarifies those seven churches in chapter two and three. 00:12:25.280 --> 00:12:30.110 And what's interesting about the seven churches is out of the seven churches, only two of only does he give this declaration at the very beginning of where his hope lies, but 00:13:24.760 --> 00:13:30.040 he wants to continue to repeat this truth to his soul, lest he gets lost in the chaos 00:13:54.260 And what David wants us to recognize in verses eight to 10, I'll read it in just a moment. 00:13:54.320 --> 00:14:00.720 What he's saying is don't allow your eyes to look past the 00:14:12.480 So you see in this these words that David has now turned his attention for more than just himself, but he's now looking beyond and he's declaring to the people trust 00:14:12.480 -->
