00:02:25.500 But the reason we're looking over such a large gamut of scripture, normally we don't cover such a large portion of Scripture, but the reason that we're doing that is because 00:02:25.690 of Proverbs this past week was the phrase under the sun and 00:03:36.700 --> 00:03:37.400 vanity. 00:03:37.460 --> 00:03:40.170 Depending on what translation you have, they're going to use those words differently. 00:03:41.000 --> 00:03:45.130 Some translate the word vanity as vapor, especially if you like the King James. 00:03:45.320 --> 00:03:47.220 Others translate it as meaningless. 00:03:48.560 --> 00:03:52.360 But the idea is when life under the sun is lived, it's vanity. 00:03:52.380 --> 00:03:57.180 Or when life lived is lived apart from God, it's meaningless. 00:03:58.900 it's really throughout the entire book as he continues to remind us that while life apart from God is meaningless, God created you 00:04:11.060 --> 00:04:15.080 to enjoy him and live life to the negative, and the idea that Solomon wants to carry for 00:04:34.560 --> 00:04:41.520 all of us when we read this book is that we learn to engage our own ability to think, to ask the important we need to consider the great questions of life, not just the day to day things that we encounter, but the motivation 00:05:00.100 --> 00:05:03.340 and the force for why we choose to live life the way Ecclesiastes literally means the preacher. 00:05:32.380 --> 00:05:35.000 And about the life of Solomon, we understand as we study. 00:05:35.080 --> 00:05:36.780 Solomon is the King of Israel. And it tells us in the book of Ecclesiastes, whatever he thought would bring him pleasure, he pursued it. 00:05:54.780 --> 00:06:02.040 Whether it would be money or fame or power, or women or home, or ability to feed themselves. 00:09:07.920 --> 00:09:14.240 And so there's a time when they scatter those stones to defeat nations, and there's a time when you gather the stones so that a nation can
