--> 00:00:32.229 You know, I find, as I read in the New Testament, Paul sometimes reflects on the word of faith, hope, and love. 00:00:32.500 --> 00:00:39.780 And as I've come to know Jesus my personal life, and begin to walk with him and understand what a relationship with him is all about, 00:00:39.820 --> 00:00:44.180 I find faith, hope, and love significant to the way I live my day to principles of faith, hope, and love. 00:01:09.040 --> 00:01:16.280 This morning, as we think about and reflect on the history of what Easter has meant throughout time, it wasn't always a celebration that 00:01:16.280 --> 00:01:23.400 brought great smiles to your life, because it dealt very much so with death and sacrifice 00:01:26.320 --> 00:01:28.580 and the Genesis chapter three and verse 15. 00:01:28.580 --> 00:01:35.600 If you read the story of Genesis and the creation of this world, and Adam and Eve, who were created, being our first parents, came to this earth, 00:01:35.840 --> 00:01:41.820 and it tells us in the very beginning that they ate of the fruit of good and evil, and thus sinned against God. 00:01:45.300 --> 00:01:51.360 In their sin they were in a place of which was total despair to the relationship with the Lord. 00:01:52.640 --> 00:01:54.120 They needed faith, hope, and love. 00:01:56.180 --> 00:01:59.560 They needed rescued They needed a Savior. 00:02:01.360 --> 00:02:08.220 Because when sin entered into that world, the relationship with God was marred through sin and they could no longer experience it. 00:02:08.300 --> 00:02:12.900 If you read Ephesians chapter two and verse one, it literally says, your relationship with God is dead. 00:02:15.380 --> 00:02:20.080 When it comes to standing before a perfect, holy, Almighty God in his heavenly kingdom. 00:02:20.560 --> 00:02:27.700 We as people with sin have no merit to stand on, and you can do anything in the world to try to earn that favor 00:02:27.700 --> 00:02:28.540 back with God. 00:02:28.680 --> 00:02:35.590 But nothing can undo the sin in which you have conducted against him that sin resides for eternity. 00:02:36.520 --> 00:02:42.720 Matter of fact, the book of Ephesians and Titus remind us it's not by works of righteousness which we do that earns favor to God. 00:02:43.340 --> 00:02:45.150 Titus chapter three and verse five. 00:02:47.000 --> 00:02:51.540 But God being a God of love and creating Adam and Eve and loving them, also created for them hope. 00:02:53.280 --> 00:03:00.500 In Genesis chapter three and verse 15, it gives the first promise to Adam and Eve, or the future Messiah who would come and die for 00:03:00.540 --> 00:03:01.000 their sins. 00:03:01.040 --> 00:03:08.040 And if you think about when someone has wronged you in your own relationships and experience in this world, in order for that relationship to be 00:03:08.040 --> 00:03:14.360 mended, either that person must be given forgiveness by you, or there's no meaning of continue to make them pay that debt for the rest of their life, owing it back to you for the offense that they've done. 00:03:25.680 --> 00:03:31.640 Or you can forgive them, taking that offense upon looked at Adam and Eve in the midst of their sin and caused them to pay for their sin debt, which would have been against an eternal God which could have lasted or would have lasted for 00:03:44.240 --> 00:03:46.540 eternity according to that current relationship. 00:03:46.700 --> 00:03:50.740 But Jesus offered a way out through a messiah who would come and die for their sins. 00:03:52.200 --> 00:03:56.060 He took on that debt, that sin debt that we own. 00:03:57.700 --> 00:04:05.180 As Jesus gave that promise to us in Genesis chapter three, the Bible goes on and begins to share with the life of a man named Abraham and 00:04:05.180 --> 00:04:09.920 the life of Abraham, literally by Abraham and the promise given to him in Genesis chapter 12. 00:04:10.000 --> 00:04:14.780 God came to Abraham and said, through you, Abraham, all nations will be blessed. 00:04:16.959 --> 00:04:21.490 Abraham's lineage would lead to the future Messiah who would die for all sins. 00:04:23.280 --> 00:04:24.740 Genesis chapter 22. 00:04:24.740 --> 00:04:31.800 It tells us, as Abraham was one day journeying with his son Isaac, the only rightful son that he had who would be heir to the Jewish throne, and from him 00:04:31.800 --> 00:04:36.660 the seed would be multiplied of all the Jewish people, and from Isaac all nations would be blessed as well. 00:04:37.320 --> 00:04:44.500 It tells us in Genesis chapter 22 that Abraham took his son up onto a mountain because God said he needed to make 00:04:44.500 --> 00:04:46.240 a sacrifice with his life. 00:04:48.030 --> 00:04:51.730 And God was teaching Abraham something about himself. 00:04:53.460 --> 00:05:00.720 See, Abraham grew up in a time where people followed all sorts of different gods, and these different gods needed to be pleased, and no one really knew 00:05:00.720 --> 00:05:02.820 whether or not based on what they had done in their life. 00:05:02.940 --> 00:05:05.540 If God was or their gods that they worshipped were ever satisfied. 00:05:06.980 --> 00:05:14.180 Even to the point that the people began to sacrifice their own loved ones upon altars in order to please these gods that they think may or may not love them, to satisfy 00:05:14.180 --> 00:05:16.220 their righteous demands on their life. 00:05:16.240 --> 00:05:20.330 And Abraham was asked by God to go up on a mountain and to make a sacrifice. 00:05:22.380 --> 00:05:25.580 And God was teaching something about his love to Abraham. 00:05:27.960 --> 00:05:30.760 God was never going to ask Abraham to offer Isaac. 00:05:32.860 --> 00:05:35.600 God, and his love was going to provide that sacrifice for him. 00:05:35.700 --> 00:05:42.900 And you see in Genesis chapter two and verse eight, as Abraham goes up to this mountain thinking he may have to offer a son, he reminds 00:05:42.900 --> 00:05:58.520 his son, what we know about this God that we are following is that he loves us, and that 00:05:58.520 --> 00:05:58.520 he will offer a sacrifice for us. 00:05:58.520 --> 00:05:58.520 A lamb will be provided. 00:05:58.520 --> 00:06:05.740 3500 years ago, 500 years after the life of Abraham, we find the nation of Israel in the land of Egypt. 00:06:07.380 --> 00:06:12.170 They've grown to a group of over 2 million people there in Egypt. 00:06:12.420 --> 00:06:19.720 And God wants to bring this nation out of the land of Egypt to establish themselves as their own people group, their own nation, ruling and 00:06:19.720 --> 00:06:20.640 governed by him. 00:06:22.760 --> 00:06:25.350 And you've probably heard the story at some point in your life. 00:06:25.620 --> 00:06:30.740 Moses comes before Pharaoh, and Moses says to Pharaoh, let my people go. 00:06:32.720 --> 00:06:33.260 And Pharaoh refused. 00:06:33.860 --> 00:06:35.380 And --> 00:08:09.240 And hence we get the name the Passover. 00:08:11.480 --> 00:08:18.480 The nation of Israel was required by God to take an innocent lamb of no spot or blemish, much like Jesus, and to slay 00:08:18.480 --> 00:08:18.740 this lamb. 00:08:20.380 --> 00:08:27.480 You can imagine if there's over 2 million people in the nation of Israel at this point, and every family is responsible for the sacrificing of their own lamb, their 00:08:27.480 --> 00:08:28.600 own perfect lamb. 00:08:28.640 --> 00:08:32.000 How much blood would be spilled on this day? 00:08:34.020 --> 00:08:41.100 And he says to the nation of Israel, if you apply this blood to your life, if you believe that this blood will save you and apply it to your 00:08:41.100 --> 00:08:46.380 life, when the death angel comes, he's literally going to just pass over you. 00:08:48.580 --> 00:08:55.440 A sign of the hope to the people in the moment, a sign of hope to the reflection of what Jesus would bring to the future. the Passover. 00:09:04.050 --> 00:09:08.080 As the story goes on, the nation of Israel escapes out of the bondage in Egypt. 00:09:09.580 --> 00:09:12.660 God instructs the nation of Israel to build what they called the temple. 00:09:14.360 --> 00:09:16.520 They built one temple for the entire nation. 00:09:16.520 --> 00:09:19.580 It was a place in which they came to worship the God. 00:09:19.600 --> 00:09:25.200 And everything within the temple symbolized and reflected a ministry in which Jesus would fulfill. 00:09:25.200 --> 00:09:30.700 One day a priest was responsible for carrying out the duties in the temple. 00:09:32.020 --> 00:09:34.910 Jesus is referred to in the book of Hebrews as our High Priest. 00:09:36.340 --> 00:09:39.540 As you journeyed into the temple, you would come to the very first inner rooms. 00:09:39.640 --> 00:09:47.120 What you would see is the basin of water for the purification and cleansing of your hands, to remind you of the washing of sin that needs to take place in 00:09:47.120 --> 00:09:47.620 your life. 00:09:47.680 --> 00:09:55.060 And you would see next to the basin of water, the altar of sacrifice, in which innocent lambs or animals were sacrificed upon the altar for 00:09:55.060 --> 00:09:56.500 the remission of sins. 00:09:57.900 --> 00:10:02.500 As you journeyed into the building in the back with the gold plate along the top, you would find the. 00:10:03.460 --> 00:10:09.300 The bread of showplace is a table in which fresh bread was portrayed upon. 00:10:09.420 --> 00:10:09.800 It was. 00:10:10.280 --> 00:10:14.740 It was a reminder to us as Jesus came in the book of John, he referred to himself as the bread of life. 00:10:14.920 --> 00:10:17.360 Jesus would give life to us as people. 00:10:18.340 --> 00:10:20.640 As you went to the very back of the room, there was a 15 by 15 room that was closed off to everyone else in the world. 00:10:32.900 --> 00:10:38.440 No one in Israel could go into this room except for the high priest, and he could only go into this room one time of year. 00:10:39.460 --> 00:10:43.000 It was referred to as the Holy Place, the Holy of Holies. 00:10:44.950 --> 00:10:49.940 The glory of God was said to have dwelled there once a year. 00:10:49.960 --> 00:10:51.940 A high priest would make a sacrifice and he would. 00:10:52.200 --> 00:10:56.360 He would wear this long robe and attach this long robe would literally be tassels and bells. 00:10:56.600 --> 00:11:01.920 And when he would go into the building, everyone would listen on the outside as he entered behind that curtain to make sure he was still alive. 00:11:01.920 --> 00:11:07.120 Because if the high priest entered into that room with any sin in his life, he would be struck dead on the spot. 00:11:09.900 --> 00:11:17.940 And once a year he would apply the blood of an innocent goat upon the mercy seat, the Ark of the covenant, a 00:11:18.000 --> 00:11:21.820 sacrifice on behalf of the nation of Israel for their sins. 00:11:24.120 --> 00:11:31.560 Everything dealing with this temple pointed to Jesus tells us in Second Chronicles 00:11:31.560 --> 00:11:39.320 chapter 35 and verse seven that on the Passover day, when the nation of Israel gathered to worship, over 30,000 00:11:39.320 --> 00:11:42.160 lambs were sacrificed on the altar in front of that temple. 00:11:43.780 --> 00:11:46.220 In addition to that, there were other sacrifices that went along. 00:11:47.660 --> 00:11:50.140 And on that day when you entered into the temple. 00:11:50.300 --> 00:11:53.800 Blood literally flowed from this building. 00:11:54.600 --> 00:12:01.490 It was a sobering moment to the people as they worshiped God on the Passover, a reality of what their sin brings. 00:12:03.040 --> 00:12:08.410 But as they looked at the innocence of the lamb who was sacrificed, it was a reminder to them that all those sin brings death. 00:12:08.540 --> 00:12:13.610 There is hope to come as Jesus will be provided for that sacrifice for them. 00:12:15.020 --> 00:12:19.560 Bible tells us in Hebrews chapter ten everything that took place in the temple. 00:12:19.800 --> 00:12:25.440 He says, law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming, not the realities themselves. 00:12:26.500 --> 00:12:33.500 For this reason, it can never by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. 00:12:34.380 --> 00:12:41.540 Otherwise would they not have stopped being offered, for the worshippers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer 00:12:41.540 --> 00:12:43.060 have felt guilt for their sins. 00:12:44.200 --> 00:12:47.140 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sin. 00:12:48.200 --> 00:12:55.220 It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin, nor the ministry that took place 00:12:55.220 --> 00:13:00.260 within the temple was a reminder to the people that ultimately there was a better sacrifice to come. 00:13:00.280 --> 00:13:05.170 It was merely a shadow that represented all the things in which Jesus was to fulfill when he was on the earth. 00:13:06.660 --> 00:13:13.880 In fact, as the people of Israel went and they began to worship in the temple, and they began to honor God through the rituals in which God had instilled in their hearts, he continued to 00:13:13.880 --> 00:13:21.000 remind them throughout Scripture and all sorts of wonderful places of the opportunity of a messiah who would come, who would give his life for their sins 00:13:21.000 --> 00:13:25.730 if they would simply apply the blood to their lives. 00:13:26.600 --> 00:13:30.720 It says in Isaiah 53, but he was pierced for our transgressions, talking about Jesus. 00:13:31.800 --> 00:13:34.180 This was recorded were beaten, bruised and thrown into prison and killed for what they believed. 00:30:26.460 --> 00:30:31.700 Their testimony was that they saw a dead man walking, and if it was for a lie, there was no in the Bible, Mark chapter 15 and verse 37, as Jesus hung on the cross, and as he prepared 00:32:10.320 --> 00:32:15.960 to die, and as he gave his last breath, it says, And Jesus uttered a loud cry,
